Final Conference "Via Militaris-A Corridor for Sustainable Tourism Development"

Niš, Serbia

The Via Militaris is a joint initiative for sustainable tourism in the Serbia-Bulgaria cross-border region. Regional Development Agency South (Niš, Serbia) in partnership with Agency for Economic Development (Kostinbrod, Bulgaria) worked hard to implement project activities and promote tourism in the Via Militaris region in times when the world faced the devastating consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the tourism sector that is among those being affected most severely. Our joint project team and more than 50 participants from the tourism sector from Serbia and Bulgaria have demonstrated in practice that with personal responsibility, mutual trust, and solidarity we can still travel and cooperate, even in the time of the pandemic. At our final conference, we will present our activities, results, and plans and will close the work on the project, but also, we want to open new possibilities for cooperation and improvement, especially in relation to sustainable rural development and tourism development on the Via Militaris route. We invite existing and prospective tourism service providers- SMEs and individuals active in the tourism sector such as travel agencies and tour operators, tourism transport, accommodation, food, recreation, promotion, cultural event organizers, agriculture households active in agritourism, public and private institutions and organizations in charge of tourism and culture, bodies in charge of management in protected areas, local self-governments from Nisava, Pirot and Zajecar districts in Serbia and the areas of Sofia, Montana and Pernik in Bulgaria to participate in our event, to connect and contribute to sustainable touristic exploitation Via Militaris potentials in a way which truly benefits the people and the economy of the cross border area.
