Let's Talk: Inclusive Growth in Tourism
World Tourism Day (WTD), celebrated each year on September 27, is the global observance day fostering awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political and economic value and the contribution that the sector can make towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.
Therefore on WTD, Jamaica's Ministry of Tourism, and it public bodies, spearheaded by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) will host a virtual discussion dubbed “Let’s Talk Inclusive Growth in Tourism," as we join the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the global community in marking this important day.
Inclusive growth is economic growth that is distributed fairly across society and creates opportunities for all. World Tourism Day 2021 provides a unique opportunity to celebrate tourism’s ability to ensure that no one is left behind while looking beyond the statistics and amplifying the conversation about the involvement of citizens and ways to expand the tourism supply chain with respect to socially and environmentally sustainable practices. It also provides an opportunity to create and further strengthen the linkages that can be created between local people and the tourism sector, and the potential costs and benefits.
Unlocking the potential of the tourism eco-system and its broad value chain, as well as investment facilitation in tourism can deliver more inclusive and sustainable growth in new areas, including for traditionally-marginalized communities. Alongside this, expanding access to tourism education and delivering sector-specific training will give everyone the chance to benefit from tourism’s future growth.
The "Let’s Talk Inclusive Growth in Tourism” panel discussion will include discourse on Inclusive Growth in Tourism with representatives from the Sport & Entertainment, Gastronomy, Manufacturing & Agriculture and Creative Industries.
